The immediate spectrum of color possible through the medium of pastels brought artist Gail Palpant to a new level of creativity after rooting in traditional oils for decades. The change brought new passion and creativity to the experience of painting, which she describes as a process that is spiritual and gives her creativity wings and flight. At the heart of her work is the exploration of human emotion in families and relationships across generations, and ways in which her subjects interact with their world in everyday life.
Palpant’s expertise in painting and ultimately portraiture has been honed over four decades. Advanced studies have taken Palpant throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, but she never strays far from her rural, southern Michigan roots that are evident in many of the scenes in her paintings. Studies in Giverny, France, the site of Monet’s gardens, have intensely influenced her. Palpant’s award-winning skills in painting and portraiture have attracted scores of students who have studied under her. Commissioned works by the artist have appeared in solo and joint exhibitions, and numerous paintings hang throughout the United States and abroad.
